2018: a vintage close to our hearts

2018: a vintage close to our hearts

Ah yes, 2018.

The year France lifted the World Cup trophy again (Allez les Bleus!), the year of “The Royal Wedding: Part II” with Prince Harry & Meghan... and we welcomed our first child—an unforgettable year in every sense.

While all that was happening, we were also perfecting what became a standout vintage at Château Canon Chaigneau. And the critics took notice.

  • ’...red fruits, white chocolate, flowers, and cured meat…  silky, seamless... impressive tannins, and a great finish... smoky, complex, beautifully textured…’

Jeb Dunnuck, 91

  • ‘A very balanced, creamy-textured red with blueberry, chocolate and walnut flavors... a solid core of fruit and a flavorful finish. Drink after 2022, but already very attractive.’

James Suckling, 92

2018 was a winemaker’s dream:

A warm, dry summer encouraged excellent grape maturation, with Merlot thriving in the conditions. While some regions struggled with early-season mildew, our meticulous vineyard care ensured healthy, concentrated fruit. The result? A full-bodied, velvety wine with ripe blackberry notes, hints of spice, and a long, elegant finish.

Perfect Pairing? Try this:

Duck Breast with Blackberry Reduction 🦆✨
The rich, gamey flavor of duck paired with the fruity acidity of a blackberry sauce is a match made in heaven for the 2018 Grand Vin. Its ripe berry notes echo the reduction, while the structured tannins hold up to the duck's richness. Here the recipe!

Or, if you’re after something simpler:

Thyme-Roasted Root Vegetables 🥕🌿
The earthy, caramelized flavors of roasted veggies (think carrots, parsnips, and beets) balance beautifully with the wine's spice and fruit-forward character.

2018 was a year we’ll never forget—for so many reasons. Make it memorable for you, too.

P.S. If you hear “Laurel”... we’re still not judging. 😄🍷
