En Primeur: Sharing a Vintage Before It Exists
Long before a wine is bottled, labelled, or shipped, there comes a moment when it is first shared with the outside world.
In Bordeaux, this moment is known as en primeur. Each spring, wines still resting in barrel are tasted by merchants, journalists, and buyers, offering an early glimpse into a vintage that is still evolving.
For us at Château Canon Chaigneau, en primeur is not simply a sales campaign. It is the first opportunity to present the character of a new vintage and to share the work that has taken place in the vineyard and cellar over the previous year.
By the time en primeur arrives, the harvest is complete, fermentations have finished, and the wine has begun its élevage. The months ahead will continue to shape the final wine, but its personality is already emerging: the balance of the vintage, the expression of the fruit, and the identity of our terroir in Lalande-de-Pomerol.
Offering a wine en primeur also allows us to connect directly with those who follow our estate vintage after vintage. It gives buyers the opportunity to secure an allocation before bottling, while allowing us to share the wine at an earlier stage of its journey.
The 2025 vintage remains in barrel, continuing to develop with time and patience. While there is still work ahead before the wine reaches its final form, en primeur marks the beginning of that journey beyond the château walls.
We are delighted to share this first glimpse of the vintage and look forward to following its evolution in the years to come.
