2014 was a something of a miraculous year. The winter was mild, with a lot of rain. June was warm and sunny, but July & August were particularly cool & cloudy, leading to concerns over the maturity.
Bordeaux, like a large part of France, enjoyed an exceptional Indian summer from the end of August through to early November, allowing the late start to be compensated and leading to wonderfully ripe grapes. Harvesting was later than usual then, starting at the beginning of October.
The resulting yields were average in size but generally high in quality, with concentrated, pure fruit, good acidity and smooth easy tannins. Starting to drink very well indeed, but will develop for the next 5 years plus!

Tasting Notes:

Red berries, subtle hints of forest floor and truffle. On the palate, balanced structure with soft tannins, layered with notes of raspberries, cherries, and a touch of soy that adds depth to the mid-palate.

Wine Profile:

Fruitness: 3/5

(1 = earthy, 5 = fruity)

Body: 3/5

(1 = Light Body, 5 = Heavy Body)

Aroma:

Red berries
Soy

Food Pairing:

Spiced lamb koftas, Miso glazed eggplant, Beef empanadas, Crispy ducks hoisin sauce, Venison stew with juniper berries, Wild mushroom and truffle arancini, Ratatouille with provençal herbs, Roasted quail with pomegranate glaze.

  • ‘…attractive raspberry, red cherry, soy and hung game scents on a nose that needs 20–30 minutes to really coalesce. The palate is medium-bodied with soft, supple tannins. The soy element comes through quite strongly on the midpalate.. real edge.. partnered with food, it works well and, strangely, seems not a million miles away from a Tuscan Sangiovese in style.’

Neal Martin (Vinous), 89

"A contemplative wine, now blending fruit with subtle and delicate aromas of scented oak and tobacco as it approaches its peak. An opportunity to drink the pinnacle of fine, elegant, graceful Lalande-de-Pomerol."

A Unique Terroir

The Néac plateau. One of the finest wines of the appellation, and one of the best value wines in France - medium bodied, not over extracted, complex, suave & extremely drinkable, typically with notes of truffle, black fruits, spice and cacao.
